Wa/Mo is the most popular combo and pretty versatile from what I understand.

In fact, let's just leave W/Mo and Mo/W out of all this. Paying attention to my party's healing needs isn't something I trust myself to be able to do at 2 a.m. when I'll be playing this.

Thanks Loviatar, I had stumbled across these earlier and couldn't find them again.
And to follow up on the Anti-caster possiblility, what are some suggestions for a solid W/Me?
That doesn't use Illusionary Weaponry. I feel that's too easily dispelled and it's always nearly the only damage source for the char.

So what if you're an E/Mo? You mean to tell me you have no advice on part-warrior builds? C'mon.

IMO a good anti-caster would be a Me/Necro. Think about it b4 you flame the idea...... Look at all the skills and pick the 8 that would be the best. I know that's what my Me/N is doin....

Right...me, flame. Jade, I have no idea what should look ridiculous and what should look good right now. The only thing about a Me/Necro is that I'd like to start with a part-warrior. I tend to get sort of physical in rpg's. And the anti-caster is just an example. I'd just like to have a build that can solo and have a PvP application as well.

All warriors will be able to solo better than other classes, and W/Mo will be able to solo the best. W/E can raise you defense to ridiculous amounts, if you want that. W/Me in Hammer Mastery would be the best anti-caster, but keep in mind that you will have very little energy, being a Warrior.

Try a Wa/Nec. And excuse the beejeesus outta me for suggesting an easy-to-play build. You did say you wanted newbie assistance and that's about the easiest newb character to play for people who like melee. I have yet to see any Wa/Mo take on prime healing responsibility so healing capability was not a factor in my suggestion.

Whoops. My bad. I didn't mean to come off sounding angry or unthankful in that reply Dansamy. It's just like I said. I like to keep out of the flow a little. But maybe with the healing responsibilities removed 'll try it.

If you want to play a Warrior and want a straightforward character to play, the obvious choices are W/Mo, W/E, and W/N.
If you don't like W/Mo, I'd consider W/E. At the very least you can go Earth Elementalist and pick up some nice defensive abilities to complement your Warrior skills.

*/E is far too energy intensive without the primary profession's boost of energy storage. I really don't reccommend anyone using */E, except maybe a Me/E with a lot of energy stealing. This is just my opinion. There's nothing more aggravating than needing to cast a spell and not having the energy to do it.
And Wa/Mo is a very easy to use build and you can utilize some of the protective spells in the Monk profession to limit your damage received and lessen the burden on your party's healers. Also W/N can use life-stealing spells to the same effect, reducing the party's primary healer's burden a bit.

From your post, I would recommend trying a W/Me using Inspiration.
The biggest problem in playing a W/Caster is energy - you just don't have enough. Using spells such as Ether Tap and Ether Lord, you will not only remove energy from your opponent, but keep yours nice and high so that you can use your skills more often. As for the warrior side of things, anything would work. Hammer would be nice for knockdowns, axe is good for interrupts and sword has hamstring to stop your target from running. For axe/sword, I recommend using a focus in the offhand, not a shield.
It's a fairly straightforward concept build, and perhaps lacks subtlety, but is balanced and easy to use for a first char.

If you think Wa/Mo is too "common" Wa/Ne is a good alternative, with the life stealing you can keep yourself up longer, and damage the foe, all without enchantments.

I have enjoyed my Nec/War, I have been able to do all missions and except the few ascension missions with henchmen. I love the Blood/Curse line and have 4 pips of energy regen with AL70 armor fully buffed out with minor runes I have 540 health and 40 energy. It was my first character and it was fairly easy to find strategys to many of the issues that you come up against. Well just my opinion.
